Jeremy Clarkson has mocked Lewis Hamilton’s first week as a Ferrari driver, expressing his surprise at Hamilton’s behavior during the visit. Clarkson is a known Formula 1 enthusiast and often attends Grands Prix. However, he has targeted Hamilton, especially after the seven-time world champion’s first few days with Ferrari. Clarkson questioned the way Hamilton conducted himself during his time at the team’s headquarters in Maranello.
Hamilton’s First Week at Maranello
Last week, Hamilton visited Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello for the first time. During his visit, Hamilton took part in a test with Ferrari’s 2023 car at the Fiorano circuit, which was attended by over 2,000 fans. However, Clarkson criticized Hamilton for spending more time engaging with fans and taking social media photos instead of focusing on the car and its capabilities, which he believes should have been the priority.

Clarkson suggested that Hamilton may have joined Ferrari hoping for a fast car to secure his eighth world championship. He acknowledged rumors that Ferrari could have one of the fastest cars this season. However, Clarkson pointed out that if Hamilton were truly focused on winning the title, he would have prioritized understanding the car’s capabilities rather than engaging in photo ops and fan interactions upon arrival at the factory.
Criticism of Hamilton’s Behavior at Ferrari Headquarters
Clarkson further questioned Hamilton’s actions, criticizing him for arriving at Ferrari in an SUV, dressed in a suit and tie, and posing for pictures before engaging with fans. He felt that Hamilton’s behavior was more about maintaining a superstar image than focusing on his job as a driver. Clarkson also noted the slow-motion shots of Hamilton’s tour of the factory, which made him appear overly concerned with maintaining a glamorous persona.
Clarkson highlighted the challenge Hamilton will face alongside teammate Charles Leclerc, whom he believes could give Hamilton significant trouble. Leclerc’s familiarity with the team and his skills, including being considered by many as the fastest driver, puts him in a favorable position. Clarkson speculated that Hamilton might have joined Ferrari partly to tick off the box of driving for the iconic team before retirement, as he feels the champion may be past his prime.
