It is directed by Ryan Murphy and produced by Chad Beguelin, Adam Anders, Bill Damaschke, Dori Berinstein, Ryan Murphy, Bob martin, Mathew Sklar, Scott Robertson, and Alexis Martin Woodall under the production company Ryan Murphy Productions. It is based on the 2018’s broadway musical of the same name “The Prom”.

The screenplay of this movie is written by Bob Martin and Chad  Beguelin whereas the cinematography is done by Matthew Libatique and edited by Danielle Wang and Peggy Tachdjian. The music is given by Matthew Sklar and the movie is distributed by Netflix.

Director Murphy has made an announcement about the planning of this film in April 2019 during the charity performance of the musical at New York’s Longacre Theatre. Later in June 2019, some of the main cast has got finalized for the film, and till this year June 2020, some of the other cast joined the film. Actual filming has started on 11th December 2019 in Los  Angeles. Later due to the coronavirus pandemic filming got suspended on 12th March 2020 and after almost 3 months the production has resumed on23rd July 2020.

The Prom Release Date On Netflix 

The team has planned to release the film in theaters as well as on Netflix. The prom is scheduled to be released in some of the selected theaters in early December 2020 whereas it is scheduled to be released on Netflix on 11 December 2020.

The main cast which we will be seeing in The Prom are James Corden as Barry Glickman, Meryl Streep as Dee Dee Allen, Andrew Rannells as Trent Oliver, Nicole Kidman as Angie Dickinson, Jo Ellen Pellman as Emma Nolan, Keegan-Michael Key as Tom Hawkins, Kevin Chamberlin as Sheldon Saperstein, Ariana DeBose as Alyssa Greene, Logan Riley Hassel as Kaylee, Kerry Washington as Mrs. Greene, Mary Kay Place, Nico Greetham as Nick Boomer, Sofia Deler as Shelby, Tracey Ullman as Vera and Nathaniel J. Potvin as Kevin, etc.

The story of the film is on Prom night and revolves around two main characters Emma Nolan and Alyssa. Both these ladies are the girlfriends and struggling to go to prom together whereas on the other side Barry Glickman and Dee Dee Allen are New York city stage stars who are going through crises and flatlined their careers due to the flop of their new expensive Broadway show. Girls are having full support from the principal Tom Hawkins but the head of PTA Mrs.

Greene has banned Emma from attending the prom with her girlfriend Alyssa. For improving their public image once again four stars whose careers are currently running down named Dee Dee, Barry, Trent, and Angie are things for helping Emma. But later their intention got backfires, realized their own life, and selflessly try to give Emma a great night where she can attend the prom with her girlfriend and truly celebrate who she is.
