Today in this article we will be talking about the Disney+Hotstar Has Over 18.5 Million Paid Subscribers, Takes Disney+ To 73.7 Million. Disney+ is an American subscription over the top video streaming platform owned by the Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution by The Walt Disney Company. It was debuted on 12th November 2019 in the Netherlands, the United States, and Canada and expanded later after a week in New Zealand, Australia and Puerto Rico followed by an expansion on 24th March 2020 in European countries.
On the other hand, Hotstar is an Indian subscription video-on-demand streaming platform that is operated and owned by Star India. It was first Launched as Hotstar on 11th February 2015. After the purchase of 21st CentiryFox a star India’s parent company in 2019 by Disney, in February 2020, the company has announced the plan to integrate its new interaction streaming brand Disney+ with Hotstar in April 2020.
Finally, the Indian platform Hotstar has merged on 3rd April 2020 this year with Disney+ with leveraging Hotstar’s userbase and the existing infrastructure. Now, since April the Disney+ is available in India through Disney’s Hotstar streaming service which was rebranded as “Disney+Hotstar”.
Disney+Hotstar Has Over 18.5 Million Paid Subscribers, Takes Disney+ To 73.7 Million
After merging with Hotstar, Disney+ got so much growth in its userbase. Since February 2020, Disney+ announced viewing figures which had reached total subscribers of 26.5 million. Recently the quarterly earning call happened on 12th November 2020 Thursday and the senior executive Vice president and the Chief Finacial Office of Disney Christine McCarthy were announced the numbers of last quarter. He stated the figures as Disney+Hostar brand has collected over 18.5 million paid subscribers now, continuing his statement saying which takes their original Disney+ brand making the global subscriber base up to 73.7 million. Earlier within Disney+’s first day of operation, the subscriber base was ten million and now it was reported that, as of 30th September 2020, the subscribers have reached up to 73.7 million, a huge increase of the paid subscriber base on Disney+ streaming platform.
McCarthy also stated the numbers of last quarter July to September saying Disney+ and Disney+Hotstar have added over 16 million subscribers in the last quarter. He stated this great number is a result of merging with Hotstar and the contribution of Disney+Hotstar’s most recently aired Indian Premier League 2020 which can be seen as a VIP paid plan users only on Disney+Hotstar.
In April 2020, Disney has once announced the total number of subscribers after merging with Hotstar, which was around 8 million, and now McCarthy has announced his great increase of the subscriber base to 18.5 million which is more than the double. He also talked about the average revenue per user of this quarter for Disney+ and Disney+Hotstar both. For Disney+Hotstar individually it was $5.30 and for Disney+hotstar it was $4.52.
