Raising Dion was first released with nine episodes on October 4 2019. On January 2, 2020, Netflix renewed the 2nd season of Raising Dion.
It was the adaptation of the 2015 comic and short film of the same name. Dennis Liu, who was the writer of the comic and director of the short film, was one of the executive producers of the Raising Dion Tv series along with Micheal B Jordan, Barbee, Charles D King, Kim Roth, Poppy Hanks, Kenny Goodman, and Micheal Green.
Raising Dion is about a seven-year-old boy named Dion Warren, played by Ja’Siah Young, with special superhero powers. He had inherited these powers from his father, who acquired it during the ‘Aurora Event.’ The cosmic spectacle seen at Alaska was known as the ‘Aurora Event,’ where the onlookers suddenly obtained magical powers.
Dion’s father, Mark, played by Micheal B Jordan, on getting this power, tried to know more about this strange ability. But unfortunately, some kind of dangerous man with evil energy attempted to acquire Mark’s power, trapping him inside a cruel and unforgiving storm from where he could not break free. He was neither alive nor dead.
Nicole, Dion’s mother, acted by Alisha Wainwright, along with Mark’s best friend, Pat Rollins, played by Jason Ritter, kept Dion’s powers a secret so as to protect him from people who are trying to take advantage of him. They wanted to find the origin of this strange power.
During the last episode, we found out that the “crooked man,” i.e., the man with evil energy, was none other than his Godfather, Pat Rollins. Nicole and Dion, along with some others, defeated this nefarious energy that possessed Pat. This energy, on leaving Pat, went and possessed Brayden, who also inherited his powers from his father.
Starring Ja’Siah Young as Dion Warren, Alisha Wainwright as Nicole Reese, Micheal B Jordan as Mark, Jason Ritter as Pat Rollins, Jazmyn Simon as Kat Neese, and Esperanza Jimenez as Sammi Haney, Raising Dion was included under Netflix’s ‘Most Popular US Series Released in 2019’.
According to variety.com, the 2nd season was renewed for eight episodes, which is 1 episode less than the 1st season. The renewal announcement was made on January 2, along with a video of the Senegalese artist Bou Bou doing a portrait of the main characters – Nicole and Dion.
Although the release date was not announced, we believe it would be released in 2021 as the shooting may be delayed due to COVID-19. The trailer has also not been released, which would usually be in the month leading to the premiere of Raising Dion Season 2.
Let’s all wait for an official statement from the Raising Dion team for further information regarding its release.
