Ninety-Four Year Old Man Gets High School Diploma in Chicago

A 94-year-old Chicago man who missed his secondary school graduation because of World War II strolled over the phase at his old school to acknowledge his confirmation 76 years after the fact.

William C. Wagner, 76, said he missed his graduation at Tilden High School in 1944 when he left to serve in the war, yet his child, Forrest Wagner, secretly arranged a diploma to be issued for his dad in time for his birthday in March.

Wagner strolled over the stage Thursday with the Tilden High School class of 2019.

Wagner isn’t the oldest individual to be granted a secondary school certificate – Fred Butler, 106, was granted a diploma from Beverly High School in Massachusetts in 2013, about a century after he dropped out of school in the eighth grade to help bolster his family.
